Dependency

EFFECTIVE, RESPECTED, AND SKILLED REPRESENTATION FOR YOUR DEPENDENCY MATTER

When the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) (in other counties called "Child Protective Services (CPS)") enters your life, your entire world can (and likely will) change.  From the moment DCFS receives an allegation that a child is being abused or neglected and feel that the allegations have merit, social workers move to file a petition to remove the child from the home, even before you have a chance to catch your breath once they knock on your door.

Once you and your family are in the Dependency system, a parent is typically looking no less than 6 months (and usually at least 12 months) of social worker home visits, court hearings, welfare checks, monitored visits, drug testing, parenting classes, psychotherapy, and other requirements and restrictions impeding the everyday lives of them and their child.  This can happen to both parents even if the allegations are being made only against one parent.

At MNB, our attorneys can help you face the difficult process of the dependency system and reunite your family.  The attorneys at MNB have helped countless individuals and families through dependency court, and we can help you as well.  We understand the juvenile dependency system and what it takes successfully navigate the system, the attorneys involved, and the court process.  Let MNB help you protect your family from become a victim of the dependency process.

One of the biggest mistakes parents, grandparents, and other family members make is waiting until it is too late to assert their rights and have appropriate and experienced representation for them in the dependency system.

Removal of a child from the home is not the only option, and quite often it is not the best option for the child.  Our attorneys work diligently to create options to present to the social workers at DCFS/CPS to allow a child to remain in the home or with their family.  If false allegations are made, we will investigate the allegations and explain to you the steps and actions you need to take to protect yourself.

The dependency court process comes upon clients quickly and our attorneys are familiar with the procedures, rules, and are always ready to make an appearance on your behalf on short notice.  We are also familiar with many of the service providers and options for parents ordered to participate in reunification services, and we will help you get those services set-up so that you can be successful in your journey to complete them and reunify your family.
